End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) is a growing concern, given our ageing population and increasing prevalence of chronic diseases. It is a growing nationwide concern. Currently, the country is adding Six new ESRD patients daily, up from 4 in 2011. This trend is set to increase as Singapore’s population ages, coupled with an increase in the prevalence of chronic diseases such as diabetes.
To address this, we need to adopt a multipronged approach to tackle this worrying trend. To better serve patients, we have offered an advanced form of Dialysis, called Hemodiafiltration ,in selected centres.
Diaverum offer both Haemodialysis and Hemodiafiltration (HDF) treatments in our selected out-patient facilities. These facilities include Free-Standing Advance Dialysis Services as well as Hospital-based outpatient dialysis centres, ARC Novena and ARCA Farrer Park.
These centres are equipped with HDF machines to provide enhanced renal care to our patient. In essence, Hemodiafiltration is a process similar to Haemodialysis, except that the former is capable of removing molecules and waste products.
Studies have shown that patients on long-term HDF treatment reduce the risk of cardiovascular mortality, more stable blood pressure during dialysis, and prevent long term dialysis related complications. The treatment is gentler on patient’s body and reduces side effect such as blood pressure fluctuation and muscle wastage in the long run.
