I have been working as a Staff Nurse since 2014. Previously in 2006, I was working as a Registered Nurse in medical Surgical Ward at Parkway East Hospital. As the working hours in hospital compromised my time in taking care of my kids, I decided to look another role whereby the working hours don’t include night shifts. I personally feel that there is a difference in taking care of acute and chronic patients. Renal dialysis is an overly broad specialty and can be quite challenging to learn. Since then, I gradually developed an interest in dialysis care, from taking care of patients to interacting with them. Some patients were on dialysis for long time and there were also those just started dialysis.
I have been always thinking about my career development, on how to enhance my renal knowledge and skills which can aspire to manage DC alongside with the team to meet the standards for patient care and people management. As I have been working for Diaverum Singapore for many years, I was hoping to pursue further education. The company sent me on a 8 month long full time Advance Diploma Course in Nursing (Nephro-Urology) at Nanyang Polytechnic. I was so grateful and honoured to be the chosen one.
This sponsorship is a tremendous blessing to me and has given me the ability to continue pursuing my education. I have learnt a lot pertaining to renal dialysis care, rehabilitation and also widen my clinical knowledge and skills. With the newly acquired knowledge and skills, I personally realised myself that I am more competent in clinical judgment, problem solving skills, critical thinking, and leadership skills. Also, I will collaborate with the team by sharing my knowledge and skills thus improving patient clinical outcomes. I am extremely glad that I have completed the course successfully with the support and understanding of my colleagues and organization.
